Janet Glover
Janet lives and works in the United Kingdom (UK). She started her career working with adults with learning disabilities for the NW Local Social Services. She then qualified as a Registered Nurse, Midwife and Health Visitor and worked in the NHS for 10 years. She is an Honour’s Graduate and has studied at Masters Level. After 10 years of working with, and assessing babies and children, she trained as a teacher and taught Early Years, Child Development and Education within Higher Education to Early Years Health and Education practitioners. She then became a consultant working for the UK Government, “Department for Education and Skills” advising and Inspecting in education, learning and child development settings and setting up the ‘Sure Start Programme”.
She has always been very interested in the role of vision and motor movement in children’s learning and joined her husband at his busy Behavioural Optometrist practice and re- trained, using her wealth of knowledge of child development as a vision therapist. As there is no recognised training and qualifications for Vision Therapists here in the UK, she travelled extensively to Australia to complete her qualification in Practical Vision Therapy with ACBO (Australasian College of Behavioural Optometry). Still not satisfied with her knowledge and understanding of children’s development and learning she did further training with Sally Goddard Blythe at INPP (Institute for Neuro-Physiological Psychology) in Chester and qualified as an INPP Practitioner. Since then, she has become an expert in Retained Primitive Reflexes and Neuro Developmental Delay and works extensively with children from across the UK and beyond. She is also a practitioner in, Johansen Individualised Auditory Stimulation (Johansen IAS), Rhythmic Movement Therapy (RMT) and the Masgutova Method (MNRI) which is also provided within the practice depending on the needs of individual children.
Janet is passionate about the work that she does and the significant role that Reflexes and vision has on learning and development in children and young people. The practice is able to offer a wide range of blended programmes which ensures that children and young people get all the help and support that they need in one place. Both Janet, and her husband John, are very active within the British Association of Behavioural Optometrists (BABO) community and provide peer support opportunities and training to others. They also work hard to promote behavioural optometry and vision therapy to Special Educational Needs teachers and assessors helping them better understand the role reflexes and vision play have on learning and how to recognise vision related learning difficulties.
